The story behind the art
Born on the 4th of July, 1977, Pokey arrived on a night built for fireworks. That's why the sky behind the Wolf burns gold — independence isn't a holiday here, it's the whole point.
The houses glowing on the shore are El Vista, the small Black community in Port Arthur, Texas that raised him. The refinery lights on the horizon are the Gulf Coast he came up on — hard work in plain sight.
